Latvia’s Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) has sent out 3,255 letters about the expiry of residence permits to Russian citizens, the Latvian public broadcaster LSM reports.

According to the PMLP, 3,541 persons had not submitted documents requesting the status of a long-term resident of the EU or had not applied for a re-examination of their official language competence.

In accordance with Latvia’s Immigration Law, their permanent residence permits expired on September 2, and they must leave the country by November 30. Some of them are already outside Latvia, and some do not have a declared residence address in Latvia, the PMLP said.

In December, the PMLP will check whether these persons crossed the border and left Latvia. If this has not been done, an order to leave the country will follow.
