Lithuania's Medininkai border checkpoint reopened on Sunday evening after a Pakistani citizen travelling with forged documents was allowed back into Belarus, a spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) has told BNS.
"Traffic through the Medininkai border crossing was resumed at 21:00 [on Sunday]," Giedrius Mišutis said.
The man was allowed by Belarusian border guards to return to Belarus at around 20:00 on Sunday after spending almost 48 hours stuck on the border, according to the spokesperson.
The Pakistani national was travelling on Friday aboard a Minsk-Vilnius bus and showed what border guards said was a forged Romanian identity card and a driving licence. He was denied entry to Lithuania, while Belarusian border guards refused to allow the person back to Belarus.
The man was then sitting on the road separating the Belarusian and Lithuanian sides of the border crossing.
The Medininkai checkpoint was then closed to traffic in both directions, except for shuttle buses with Lithuanian licence plates and diplomatic cars, Mišutis said.
