Lithuanian Deputy Finance Minister Gediminas Norkūnas, who holds shares in Ignitis Group, placed himself in a conflict-of-interest situation when taking decisions on the state-controlled energy group’s activities, the Chief Official Ethics Commission (VTEK) ruled on Wednesday.
“The commission decided that there was a conflict of interest in adopting certain decisions related to Ignitis Group and found that the deputy minister failed to disclose his private interests in the way required by law when filing his declarations,” Tomas Čaplinskas, a senior adviser at the VTEK Investigations Department, told BNS.
Norkūnas thus violated the Law on the Adjustment of Public and Private Interests in the Public Service, according to VTEK.
LRT.lt reported last November that Norkūnas, who is directly responsible for the activities of Ignitis Group, is a shareholder of the company and receives dividends, but this is not reflected in his declaration of interests.
The Finance Ministry is the group’s majority shareholder.
