Lithuania's Central Project Management Agency will buy 12 buses with higher off-road capability for almost 2 million euros and hand them over to the Ukrainian army as part of an EU-funded project.
Under the contract signed on March 8, the buses will be purchased for 1.95 million euros, excluding VAT, from Commercial Transport Service, a company based in Lithuania's western city of Šilutė, after it won the tender, according to information on the Central Public Procurement Portal.
The company will deliver the buses within 11 months, according to Artūras Žarnovskis, an adviser to the agency's deputy director, who is in charge of projects in Ukraine.
"The project includes the purchase of medical supplies, transport, and engineering equipment for demining," Zarnovskis said.
Zarnovskis pointed out that the purchase of the buses had been planned before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The project is part of a 30 million euros European Peace Facility project to support the Ukrainian army.
The Central Project Management Agency is also currently involved in the renovation of a school in Borodyanka, a town outside of Kyiv. Some 700 children are expected to attend this school after reconstruction.
The agency is also partaking in the reconstruction of a kindergarten in Irpin, which was damaged by explosions and a fire. The reconstruction on both sites is expected to be completed by September.
