A destroyed Russian tank on display in central Vilnius was spray-painted on Tuesday night. The tank, exhibited since last week, has become a site of symbolic fight between supporters of Ukraine and Russia.
A 36-year-old man who spray-painted the trophy tank, loaned by Ukraine, was detained in the central Cathedral Square at around 20:41 on Tuesday, the Police Department said in a press release.
The police are investigating the incident as disorderly conduct.
The trophy tank will be on display in a car park near the Cathedral Square in Vilnius until March 16.
The Kyiv War Museum has loaned the tank as an exhibit to the Vytautas the Great War Museum in Kaunas until the end of 2023.
The trophy has already been a site of controversy. A fight reportedly broke out after a pro-Russian group placed carnations on the tank on Sunday evening.
