A huge mural in front of the Belarusian Embassy in Vilnius is to be unveiled on Wednesday in honour of imprisoned human rights defender, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski and other political prisoners of the Belarusian regime.
The mural was designed by the artist Lina Šlipavičiūtė-Černiauskienė, who is the head of the art laboratory Kiaurai Sienas, and painted by the street artists’ collective Gyva Grafika, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The location chosen for the artwork is opposite the Belarusian Embassy, which has become a symbol of the repression of the Alexander Lukashenko regime. The portrait of Bialatski will appear on a wall of the Simonas Daukantas Pro-Gymnasium on Mindaugo Street.
The project was initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and supported by Viasna, the organisation founded by Bialatski.
Belarusian human rights defender Ales Bialiatski, together with the Russian human rights organisation Memorial and the Ukrainian human rights organisation Centre for Civil Liberties, was awarded this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
