Musicians from Latvia, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Russia – over 40 in total – have joined together to produce a song in support of Ukraine.
The song, entitled Resistance, was written by the Latvian musician Katrīna Gupalo, who has family members from Ukraine. Distraught by the war, she channeled her emotions into music, enticing dozens of other singers to join. All proceeds from the streaming and performing Resistance will be donated to Ukraine support initiatives, according to a press release by Gupalo's management.
With lyrics in Ukrainian, English, and Russian, the song is performed by several dozen musicians, including Kamilė Griušytė and the band Deeper Upper from Lithuania, as well as Russian singer Dmitry Lanskoy, and Ukrainian musician Edgars Vilcāns. Most of the performers, however, come from Latvia.
“Maybe one voice is a small drop, but when many voices come together, they create a pond, a river, a sea, and even an ocean. And I believe that this ocean of voices will help our society to hold the right values, make the right decisions in our lives and with its powerful, elemental stream wash away the darkness and madness that has set upon us,” Gupalo is quoted in the press release.
The video of Resistance was aired during the international charity concert Save Ukraine – #StopWar last week.
