Lithuania loses bid to host European cybersecurity centre

BNS 2020.12.10 09:41

Lithuania's bid to host the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre did not receive sufficient support from other countries.

In a vote on Wednesday night, representatives of EU member states selected the Romanian capital, Bucharest, as the location for the centre, according to Lithuania's acting permanent representative to the EU, Simonas Šatūnas.

“Three countries garnered the most support in the vote tonight. Lithuania came in third among seven competitors. Romania, which is not hosting any EU agencies yet, received the most votes,” he told BNS.

Lithuania said in its application that the centre could be housed in Vilnius TV Tower and could accommodate 30 to 50 employees.

At Lithuania's initiative, a group of EU member states established the EU Cyber Rapid Response Force this year.
