British soldiers serving in Estonia received threatening “we are watching you” messages on mobile phones and social media, the Telegraph reported on Tuesday.
Campaigns to intimidate and coerce local population or troops are known as Psychological Operations (Psyops). Officials quoted by the British daily believe that the messages were sent from Moscow with the aim to unsettle allied troops.
According to the Telegraph, since arriving in Estonia in 2017, British troops have received messages on mobile phones and social media on several occasions.
NATO presence in the Baltic states have routinely come under fake news and disinformation attacks from Russia.
