Prieš daugiau kaip tris dešimtmečius vykę Roko maršai, taikūs Lietuvos žmonių protestai turėjo galingą tautos žadinimo bei cenzūros neigimo užtaisą ir vidinį žmonių laisvėjimą susiejo su valstybės laisvės idėja, kurios sutrypti buvo nebeįmanoma. Šia kalbančia istorija pasakojame mūsų kelią į laisvę, kuriuo vieningai žengdami atkūrėme Lietuvos nepriklausomybę. Šią virtualią garso ekskursiją sudaro 11 stotelių, kurios žymi lemtingus Lietuvos kelio į laisvę įvykius – nuo pirmojo 1987-aisiais per Lietuvą nuvilnijusio Roko maršo iki vilniečių džiaugsmo akyse, kai miesto aikštėje virto Lenino skulptūra. Prisiminkime istoriją, kurią šiandien turime dar stipriau branginti.

The path to freedom. Constituent Congress of Sąjūdis at the Palace of Sports (22−23/10/1988)
Before the Constituent Congress, Sąjūdis of Lithuania was already an influential force in the society. In the autumn of 1988, it had over a thousand support groups in the regions of the country and united over 300,000 members. However, they lacked coordination, so it was decided to convene the Constituent Congress of the Reform Movement of Lithuania, Sąjūdis. Main goal was to define the political directions of the movement.
On the 22nd of October 1988, the Congress was accOmpanYd by tricolour rocket shots from Gediminas Hill and fanfare, when the Lithuanian tricolour flag was raised at the Palace of Sports amiid the sounds of the national anthem.
Main mission of the Congress was to demonstrate national self-determination as widely and openly as possible. Participants talked about tolerance, openness, and an optimistic attitude. About 100 speakers took the stand. They included dissidents, Lithuanians who live in foreign countries, guests from Latvia and Estonia, also Soviet Lithuanian government authorities. Among them − Algirdas Brazauskas, First Secretary of the Centre Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania.
Members of the Initiative Group, as well as representatives from the regions, presented the programme of Lithuanian Sąjūdis at the meeting. The first report was delivered by Romualdas Ozolas.
In those days, the streets were empty, people listened to radio and television messages all over the country. The inaugural congress established Sąjūdis as the main social force in Lithuania. It was also announced that the Vilnius Cathedral would be returned to believers.
