President Grybauskaite is committed to uphold multilingualism for the next Cabinet. According to Lithuanian new prime-minister, Algirdas Butkevicius, she is planning to quiz the next minister’s linguistic abilities, personally.

Speaking today to Lithuania’s national radio, the prime-minister warned that, “from what I know from the president, she will personally speak to everyone, as far as I know, in a foreign language,” stated PM Butkevicius, 15minlt reported referring to BNS. From her perspective, President Grybauskaite wants her country to be recognised during the upcoming EU presidency in 2013.

Lithuanian ministers will have the important task for the various complex operations of the EU council such as passing legal acts, coordinating policies, etc. These activities gather representatives from all EU Member-States. Furthermore, they will have to represent the institutions in the European Commission (EC) and the European Parliament (EP) as well as in negotiations between the EU and international organisations and non-EU nations.

The president was very clear in demanding impeccable multi-linguistic abilities for the future ministers.
