Norway is the most prosperous country, according to the 2014 Legatum Prosperity Index, published on Monday by the British research centre Legatum Institute, while Lithuania is number 42 among 142 ranked nations.

Switzerland is second on the list and New Zealand is third, followed by Denmark, Canada, Sweden, Australia, Finland, the Netherlands and the United States.

Lithuania is 42nd on the 2014 Legatum Prosperity Index, while Latvia is 44th. Estonia has surpassed the two and is ranked at the 32nd place.

The rating is calculated based on eight indicators - economy, entrepreneurship and opportunity, governance, education, health, safety and security, personal freedom, social capital.
