A group of activists held a rally in support of Palestine in central Vilnius on Tuesday evening, highlighting that civilian people were affected by the Israeli-Palestinian military stand-off.

"I want people to understand that we're talking about people. Not about Hamas, not about missiles, we're talking about people," Gabrielė Tervidytė, one of the organizers of the support rally, told BNS.

A few dozen participants of the action held Palestinian flags, children's shoes and backpacks, pictures of children and slogans saying Childhood Without Bombs, Free Palestine.

"We want to show that about 130 children were killed in Gaza in 14 days, and they account for nearly 30 percent of all casualties – there are about 600 people killed by now, and about 80 percent of them are civilian. So we want to show that children should not be involved in a war, children should not be affected, regardless of who is fighting over what," Tervidytė said.

On Wednesday evening, the Jewish Community of Lithuania is holding an event to support Israeli troops. The meeting will take place in the community's premises.

Israel is continuing the operation started on 8 July, saying it is aimed at suppressing the missile and mortar attacks by Palestinian fighters.

The military campaign has claimed more than 570 Palestinian lives, killing 27 Jewish soldiers and two Israeli civilians.
