(BNS) The National Museum of Lithuania is hosting a virtual exhibition, “To Eternal Exile” to mark the 65th anniversary of the 1949 Soviet deportations.

The National Museum of Lithuania says visitors will glimpse the life stories of the individuals deported through names, stories and photos of victims privately donated to the exhibit archives.

On March 25-28, 1949 almost 29,000 people were deported from Lithuania, the second largest deportation operation in population.

The Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania reports that 32,200 Lithuanians including 9,700 children, were deported in 1949. Most of the victims were taken to the remote Siberian region of Irkutsk.
