Dear Fellow People of Lithuania, I extend my greetings to all of you who are celebrating with open hearts the Day of Restoration of the State of Lithuania.

 Dear Fellow People of Lithuania,

I extend my greetings to all of you who are celebrating with open hearts the Day of Restoration of the State of Lithuania.

Today, the whole nation, filled with pride and joy, sends goodwill greetings to Lithuania.

But the best and most meaningful gift to the State is peace and togetherness among its citizens and their wish to live and work for the future of the nation.

We have survived wars and deportations, occupations and divisions, so let us feel responsible to those men and women who united Lithuania. To those who fought for the future – their own and their children’s. To those who made us free.

But even today – as we stand together and committed to protect independence, build a modern and open state – there are some who do not view independent Lithuania as the ultimate value and who are ready to sacrifice our most fundamental national ideals for the sake of own interest.

Ninety six years ago, there too were those who doubted the very idea of Lithuanian independence. But twenty signatories stood firm and rallied the nation together. Their courage and dedication brought forth the true meaning of freedom and its value to each and every of us.

Today we have no right to waver, to look back or delay to take full responsibility for our country and its welfare. Our efforts and decisions are needed for the future of the nation – just as togetherness, mutual trust and faith in Lithuania.

Dear Fellow People,

May we cherish and be fully in charge of the things that join us together – our homeland, language, history, and traditions.

Let us build our nation each and every day. Let us give it all our love!

Let us stand united because together we can do more. All together we are Lithuania.

Happy Independence Day, everybody!
