Audrius Siaurusevičius: LRT Launches the HD Era on Television

During the meeting of the LRT Council on Tuesday, LRT Director General Audrius Siaurusevičius informed that following the approval of the 2014 state budget by the Lithuanian Republic Parliament (Seimas), budget assignations for LRT have been increased by 8% and reached the 2007 level.

 LRT Director General expressed his fulfilment at the fact that national broadcaster ends this year having successfully performed its main task – transmissions from the Lithuania‘s Presidency of the EU Council events. During the Vilnius Summit LRT had broadcast over 200 live reports for Europe and the world, to say nothing of the comprehensive live coverage from the Eastern Partnership events for the Lithuanian audience.

 Council has been presented the greatest lately technological innovation on LRT. “Starting with the next month LRT launches the HD television era in Lithuania”, – said A. Siaurusevičius. “LRT will have another one TV channel – LRT HD, which is going to be broadcast on cable network.” Viewers will not only be offered significantly better quality of picture, but also an opportunity of choosing language and subtitles of broadcast programmes.

 All 11 members of the LRT Council gave their vote for the decision on starting transmissions in HD format.

 Chairman of the Council Žygintas Pečiulis congratulated on the successful completion of the second season of the “Golden Voice” show. According to Ž. Pečiulis this project would gain significantly if it would be broadcast on LRT HD with HD and quality stereo sound.

Audrius Siaurusevičius pointed out that in the nearest future LRT Television will offer its viewers a one more quality entertainment project. LRT Director General informed that Lithuanian public broadcaster accepted an invitation to join another 10 countries that stated their participation in the Europe Sings! project organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). LRT Television plans broadcasting the National Selection for the Europe Sings! in the spring of 2014.

 With consideration of the listeners’ complaints on difficulties of receiving radio programmes in different regions of Lithuania, LRT Council approved of the plans to enlarge the LRT Radio network. During the next 2 years, 16 radio transmitting facilities will be launched in Vilnius, Jurbarkas, Kėdainiai, Kybartai, Laukuva, Šilutė (LRT Radio); Jurbarkas, Kėdainiai, Laukuva, Marijampolė, Raseiniai, Šilutė (LRT Klasika); Druskininkai, Ignalina, Mažeikia, Nida (LRT Opus).
