The number of tourists accommodated in Lithuania grew by 8.4 per cent in Q3

According to the provisional data of Statistics Lithuania, in Q3 2013, accommodation establishments accommodated by 8.4 per cent more guests than in the same quarter of 2012, and received 777.6 thousand tourists, the Baltic Course informs.

The number of tourists from the EU countries totalled 264 thousand (by 1.7 per cent more than in the same quarter of 2012), from non-EU countries – 180.7 thousand (by 12.9 per cent more).

The number of Lithuania’s residents accommodated grew by 11.9per cent and totalled 332.8 thousand.

The majority of foreign tourists were from Russia – 76.8 thousand (in Q3 2012, 71.5 thousand), Germany – 72.1 thousand (in Q3 2012, 71.4 thousand), Poland – 44.8 thousand (in Q3 2012, 47 thousand), Belarus – 43.1 thousand (in Q3 2012, 33 thousand), Latvia – 27.1 thousand (in Q3 2012, 25 thousand), the United  Kingdom – 15.7 thousand (in Q3 2012, 13.5 thousand), Estonia – 15.5 thousand (in Q3 2012, 13.7 thousand) and Italy – 13.6 thousand (in Q3 2012, 13.5 thousand).

More than half of foreign tourists – 52.8per cent – stayed in Vilnius.

Almost a third of tourists (28.4 per cent) stayed in the accommodation establishments of resort towns: Palanga – 98.3 thousand (by 2.8 per cent less than in Q3 2012), Druskininkai – 74.9 thousand (by 2.3 per cent more), Neringa – 37 thousand (by 15.4 per cent more), Birštonas – 10.2 thousand (by 35.3 per cent more).

Over the nine months of 2013, accommodation establishments received 1.7 million tourists.

In January–September 2013, accommodation establishments received 1.7 million tourists, or by 8.6 per cent more than in the same period of 2012; the number of foreigners amounted to 967.4 thousand (by 7.1 per cent more).

In Q3 2013, the number of tourists accommodated in hotels and motels amounted to 568.7 thousand. The room occupancy rate grew.

In Q3 2013, compared to the same quarter of 2012, Lithuanian hotels and motels accommodated by 7.5 per cent more tourists; the number of foreign tourists accommodated increased by 5.1 per cent.

The number of rooms in hotels and motels totalled 13.3 thousand (in Q3 2012, 13.1 thousand), that of beds – 27.2 thousand (in Q3 2012, 26.9 thousand). The hotel and motel room occupancy rate stood at 60.1 per cent (in Q3 2012, 56.9 per cent), the bed occupancy rate – 48 per cent (in Q3 2012, 46.6 per cent).

In Q3 2013, Vilnius hotels and motels accommodated 253.2 thousand tourists, which is by 8.5 per cent more than in the same quarter of 2012; the number of foreign tourists amounted to 219 thousand, or by 7.6 per cent more. In Q3 2013, the room occupancy rate of Vilnius hotels and motels stood at 74.8 per cent (in Q3 2012, 70.5 per cent), the bed occupancy rate – 59.6 per cent (in Q3 2012, 57 per cent).
