In the informal trilogue, which took place on 21 November, Lithuania, the current EU rotating Presidency, reached political deal with the European Parliament and the Commission on trade arrangements applicable to certain goods resulting from the processing of agricultural products, www.eu2013.lt has reported.

Co-legislators agreed on the proposed Regulation, which foresees powers to the Commission to adopt delegated and implementing acts, incorporates the provisions of Regulation of Common organisation of agricultural markets, and lays down common system of trade for ovalbumin and lactalbumin.

Following intense negotiations the final political deal was reached, which is in line with the reformed Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and EU’s Common trade policy and the European Union’s customs law.

This agreement establishes a solid legal basis for import duties, for administrative process of reduced import duties and import quotas, for administrative process of export refunds and also for trade of ovalbumin and lactalbumin.

“On behalf of the Presidency let me thank the European Parliament and the Commission for their constructive cooperation, which lead to the agreement on trade arrangements for processed agricultural products. EU Institutions consolidated their positions and achieved the common goal – adoption of this important regulation,” said the Lithuanian Minister of Agriculture Prof. Vigilijus Jukna.

The agreement on this Regulation will increase the clarity of and access to the legal text, which lays down the trade arrangements applicable to certain goods resulting from the processing of agricultural products. This Regulation consolidates the legal basis of implementing acts, whereas its text is in line with the provisions of the current European Commission legislation.
