Nations’ Fair starts in Vilnius today

On 13-15 September 2013 Vilnius will be hosting another festival on Gediminas Avenue – Nations’ Fair, Vilnius Tourism Information Centre informs. 

On 13-15 September 2013 Vilnius will be hosting another festival on Gediminas Avenue – Nations’ Fair, Vilnius Tourism Information Centre informs.

An array of crafts and culinary delights that represent the cultural heritage of ethnic communities residing in Lithuania will be displayed. The organisers of the fair also promise to treat Vilnius’ residents and guests to a colourful music and dance programme.

“During the Fair, locals and city guests will have an opportunity to take a look at national handmade pieces of work; they will also be introduced to traditional dishes of various nations as well as the subtleties of their preparation and a great variety of recipes. As during any festival, ‘Nations‘ Fair’ will abound in music, entertainment and festive buzz,” reads the press release of Vilnius Tourism and Information centre.

According to www.delfi.lt, it is the fifth year that national communities in Lithuania – Karaims, Tatars, Polish, Russian, German, Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Lithuanian – are going to present their produce and cultural performances, with bands from Vilnius, Trakai, Visaginas and Pabradė offering multi-cultural entertainment in Vilnius this weekend.

This year’s the highlight is going to be ‘The cultural days of Gdansk’.

As to other special events, Nations’ Fair this year is to offer a separate exposition dedicated to hand-made dolls.  Also, for the first time Vilnius is going to welcome ‘Potato festival’ during which Vilnius’ residents and guests will be able to taste a variety of potato dishes and even a special porridge which will be cooked in a giant 500 litres pot.
