President Dalia Grybauskaitė participated in the opening of the first IKEA store in Vilnius, which is also the first such store in the Baltic States, on 14 August 2013, reports the Press Service of the President.

The President welcomed one of the world’s biggest chain shopping centres on opening its doors in Lithuania, whose economy is growing as a result of smart business and diligent businesspeople.

“The opening of this shopping centre in Lithuania signifies the expansion of the Scandinavian business model, as well as thrifty and sustainable culture, into Lithuania. The vision and objective of this culture is to offer a nicer and more comfortable daily life to everyone,” the President said.

As the President noted to the staff of the new store and to all Lithuanian traders, only fair competition will guarantee premiere quality and best prices for customers, as well as attractive partnership conditions for Lithuanian manufacturers.

IKEA is a Swedish company, founded in 1943, that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, appliances, and home accessories. The Lithuania-based shopping centre is the 334th store owned and operated by IKEA chain in the world and the first in the Baltic States. Lithuania ranks fifth among major suppliers of goods to this chain.

Over 200 new jobs in Lithuania have been created through the opening of the furniture-selling store.
