Foreign Minister to meet members of socialists and democrats political group of EP

On Thursday, 20 June, Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Vytautas Leškevičius, vice-minister responsible for the European Union affairs shall meet the members of political group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats of the European Parliament (EP). 

On Thursday, 20 June, Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Vytautas Leškevičius, vice-minister responsible for the European Union affairs shall meet the members of political group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats of the European Parliament (EP).

As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported, the meeting shall concern objectives and priorities of the Lithuanian presidency of the EU Council in terms of relations with the Eastern Partnership countries, EU expansion and international trade.

During the visit to Lithuania, members of the political group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats of the EP shall also meet President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius and take part in the discussion with the members of the Government and the Parliament.

The political group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats is the second most numerous one in the EP, currently listing 190 members.

Visits by delegations of the political groups of the EP are traditionally arranged to the upcoming presidency of the EU Council. During the visits, members of the EP are introduced to the priorities of the presidency and discuss other issues of importance to the political groups.

In May, Lithuania has hosted a visit by members of political groups of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and the European People’s Party (EPP).
