A Lithuanian court is said to have frozen the assets of the owner of Scottish Premier League side ‘Hearts’ Vladimir Romanov, amid speculation of a possible takeover of the Edinburgh club, The Baltic Course reports.

A Lithuanian court is said to have frozen the assets of the owner of Scottish Premier League side ‘Hearts’ Vladimir Romanov, amid speculation of a possible takeover of the Edinburgh club, The Baltic Course reports.

The court in Kaunas seized assets controlled by Russian-born businessman Vladimir Romanov and his UBIG investment vehicle, which controls ‘Hearts’.

In a statement, the court said it had forbidden any transfer of the assets, after receiving a claim in a civil lawsuit brought by several companies.

The move comes two months after Lithuania’s central bank suspended operations at ‘Ūkio Bankas’, majority-owned by Romanov, citing irregularities.

Reports in British media have suggested Hearts fans were stepping up their efforts to take control of the club, bought by Romanov in 2005.

However, ‘Hearts’ director Sergejus Fedotovas said last month that Romanov, who is not a ‘Hearts’ director, was still in control of affairs at Tynecastle.
