Analogue TV switch-off complete in 22 EU member states

The EU’s recommended deadline of 2012 for switching of analogue TV broadcasts was met by 22 of the 27 member states, according to the recently published 2012 Yearbook from the European Audiovisual Observatory. In 2012, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovakia and the UK completed the analogue switch-off. 

The EU’s recommended deadline of 2012 for switching of analogue TV broadcasts was met by 22 of the 27 member states, according to the recently published 2012 Yearbook from the European Audiovisual Observatory. In 2012, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovakia and the UK completed the analogue switch-off.

The process should be completed in Greece, Poland and Bulgaria this year and in Hungary in 2013 or 2014. Non-EU countries Croatia, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland have also completed the analogue switch-off, bringing the total to 26 countries out of the 39 covered by the observatory. The yearbook also covers the number of DTT channels (including pay DTT and HD DTT) and new TV channel launches on all platforms.
