Lithuanian Minister of Defence Juozas Olekas told reporters that the government had been alerted of a possibility of a large number of Russian troops crossing Lithuania by a train to Kaliningrad. The alert did not prove to be correct.

“From what we know, students of a navy school were on the train. And they went on [to Kaliningrad]”, Olekas said.

He added that heightened security at the stations that the train passed was just a precautionary measure. "So others do not come," he said.

JUOZAS OLEKAS, Lithuanian Minister of Defence:
We always follow quite closely who travels by train. You know that there is an agreement about transit. According to it, a number of traveling militaries is limited. We got a signal about a big number of traveling young people. If there is a suspicion that many soldiers are travelling, such train is stopped and they are sent back. We did have such cases. However, this time it were marine school students, and they were released.

Reporter asks if there were no irregularities.
“No, there was none.”
