(BNS) Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius thinks that Gazprom’s decision to sell its stakes in Amber Grid and Lietuvos Dujos (Lithuanian Gas) is beneficial to Lithuania and will have no impact on natural gas prices in the future.
“Amber Grid is a strategic company, and having the company’s shares in [the state's] hands makes the implementation of the EU Third Energy Package easier. Speaking about Lietuvos Dujos shares, this will have no impact on the gas price, because the contract that sets the current price is in effect until the end of 2015. We hope that gas purchase terms will not be worse in a new contract starting in 2016. This will depend on further talks with Gazprom,” Butkevičius told BNS.
“Both [Lithuanian] companies are profitable and stable and, therefore, this could attract interest from investors,” he added.
