(BNS) Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite will initiate institutional changes to the State Security Department if she wins a second presidential term, she said on Ziniu Radijas Tuesday.

When asked why she has criticized the SSD and prosecution services despite appointing the institution’s leading officials, Grybauskaite said, “Both heads were replaced in 2009 and 2010. I have drawn a conclusion that only changing heads is not enough as there are structural problems and deeper reforms are needed. Therefore, the reform of the prosecution service was initiated and decisions on the SSD will have to be made immediately after the elections.”

During Sunday’s first round of voting in the presidential elections, Grybauskaite won over 46 percent of the vote. Social Democrat Zigmantas Balcytis won 14 percent of the vote.

Run off elections will be held May 25 alongside the European Parliament elections.
