(BNS) Lithuanian and Belarusian defence ministers met in Minsk and agreed to share information about activities of military forces and continue bilateral cooperation on the expert level.

Ministers Juozas Olekas of Lithuania and Yury Zhadobin of Belarus held their informal meeting on Thursday morning.

“The most important part is continuing the open dialogue between Lithuania and Belarus to avoid misunderstanding on activities of military forces in our countries,” Olekas said in a press release.

In his words, military cooperation between Lithuania and Belarus is constructive and good-willed, with nearly all measures stipulated in bilateral plans translated into reality every year. The Lithuanian minister said contacts between Lithuanian and Belarusian Air Forces are also resumed.

Olekas said Lithuania is consistently in support of working relations between NATO and Belarus.

“Should Belarus want to expand its cooperation with NATO, we are ready to provide advise and support,” said the defence minister.

The Belarusian minister, Lieutenant General Zhadobin, expressed interest in continued cooperation in areas such as training of peacekeeping forces, English-language training at the Lithuanian War Academy and air force cooperation, reads the press release.
