ALEXANDER VERSHBOW, NATO Deputy Secretary General:

Well Russia of course has raised tensions in Europe by annexing Crimea illegally and raising tensions with its massive mobilization of forces on the borders of Ukraine. In a process Russia has violated many of the principles and obligations since the time of the cold war. So it's a very serious problem. And I am very pleased to be here at Siauliai air force base to see that NATO is maintaining its defences, its deterrence and providing visible assurances to the Allies here and that no Russian aggression will be tolerated.

Soundbite (Lithuanian)

LINAS LINKEVICIUS, Lithuanian Foreign Minister:

Day by day we have to think how to stop the crisis, how to return everything onto the diplomatic course, how to stop that escalation and demonstration of force near the border, which is detrimental to Russia itself.
