The defence ministers of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia on Monday discussed the situation in Ukraine and condemned the de facto occupation of the Crimean territory, Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

The ministers held a video conference to discuss the situation in Ukraine and in the neighbourhood of the Baltic States.

“The ministers condemned the Russian invasion and de facto occupation of the Ukrainian territory in Crimea,” the statement said.

The ministers also agreed to intensify information exchange and co-ordination between the respective Joint HQ-s.

Last weekend, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the deployment of Russian troops in Crimea and eastern Ukraine to allegedly protect the right of Russian-speaking residents. Crimea is currently under control of Russian forces.
