Lithuanian President: Ukraine is on the verge of a civil war

Lithuania’s President Dalia Grybauskaitė said that Ukraine is nearing the verge of civil war.

Lithuania’s President Dalia Grybauskaitė said that Ukraine is nearing the verge of civil war.

“The developments in Ukraine are unjustifiable; I would even call it criminal. This applies to both sides – the government and the part of the opposition that aggressively provokes further aggressive actions, which have led to bloodshed and deaths,” Grybauskaitė told Lithuanian journalists after christening the terminal’s floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) during a ceremony at the world’s largest shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea.

“Ukraine is indeed on the verge of the civil war, and no international society and community will be able to support the actions. It is clear that the government continues discrediting itself,” said the President.

In her words, the international community should take action. Grybauskaitė said Ukraine may be subjected to sanctions from the European Union (EU) and on the international scale.

She urged the Ukraine’s government to talk to the opposition, saying that the international community should take any action to help Ukraine come up with a peaceful solution.

The outbreak of violence that started on Tuesday and still continues claimed lives of at least 25 protesters and police officers. Many of the victims died of gunshot wounds. Hundreds more were injured, dozens remain in serious condition, the militia and opposition figures said.
