The traditional book fair in Vilnius this year will take place on 20-23 February at the Exhibition and Convention Centre ‘Litexpo’.

The International Vilnius Book Fair is the main annual meeting place of publishers, authors and readers, it is a well-known cultural activity in Lithuania, the biggest and most important book fair in the Baltic countries, the organisers claim.

The International Vilnius Book Fair is said to be exclusively focused on the reader; its main accent is on books and cultural events, as well as on the possibility for authors to interact with their readers.

Another thing that makes the Vilnius Book Fair so famous is the long and impressive list of its foreign guests. The Fair has been visited by such stars of the literary and culture world as Alessandro Baricco, John Irving, Andrei Makine, Jostein Gaardner, Joanne Harris, Melvin Burgess, Sofi Oksanen, Yuri Slezkine, Mike Gayle, Etgar Keret, David Foenkinos, Tahir Shal, Alberto Angela, Colleen McCullough, and many others.

In 2014 the Vilnius Book Fair will highlight the classical literature.

The event is said to be raising some essential questions, such as: Is classical literature immortal? What does it mean to every one of us? Do we understand the same books alike? What are the topical issues that we are looking for in the classical literature? And what do the classical books say to us and about us?

These topics will be highlighted in the discussion and seminar programme of the Book Fair, organisers claims.

The Fair will be also dedicated to the 300th birth anniversary of the most prominent Lithuanian author and father of Lithuanian classical poetry Kristijonas Donelaitis.
