In honour of the 10th Anniversary of Lithuania’s accession to NATO, the United States Embassy in Vilnius, through its Public Affairs Section, and in partnership with The Lithuania Tribune news portal is pleased to announce the NATO Anniversary Essay Contest.

The theme of the contest is “Lithuania in NATO: The Meaning and Mission in the Next 10 Years”. The contest celebrates the strong ties of the NATO Alliance and promotes the spirit of creativity, vision, and public engagement among youth. Our collective goal is to provide a forum where young people can freely express their views, be heard and contribute to the civic discourse.

The contest will be judged by a jury led by Mr. Ruslanas Irzikevicius, Editor-in-Chief of The Lithuanian Tribune; the jury will include US Embassy personnel and alumni of US-Lithuanian exchange programmes. Essays will be judged in two age categories: those written by high-school students and university/college students.

The winning entries in each category will be published on The Lithuanian Tribune news portal. The authors of the best five essays in each category will have the opportunity to participate in the 10th Anniversary Celebration at Lithuanian Air Force air base in Šiauliai, meet with the American personnel serving there, and even don the G-suit worn by F-15 pilots.

To participate, send an original essay, in English, to WebEmailVilnius@state.gov by 5 March 2014. For full rules and submission guidelines, please review http://goo.gl/iUISbz.
