Lithuania’s President Dalia Grybauskaitė is going to Germany on Friday to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel, while Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius is scheduled to meet his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, and Alexei Miller, CEO of Russia’s gas concern Gazprom, in Sochi.

In Erfurt, the Lithuanian President and the head of the German government will hold a working meeting to discuss bilateral co-operation and energy security issues, ways to strengthen business relations and promote investments between the two countries, the Lithuanian President’s press service said.

Grybauskaitė will also attend a congress of the Christian Democratic Party as a guest.

Meanwhile, the Lithuanian and Russian Prime Ministers will discuss bilateral economic relations and the Lithuanian-Russian economic forum due to take place in St. Petersburg in April, according to a press release circulated by the Lithuanian government.

Before the meeting with Medvedev, Butkevičius is also planned to meet with Alexei Miller, CEO of Russia’s gas concern Gazprom. The meeting will be the first after the last week’s assembly of Lietuvos Dujos (Lithuanian Gas) shareholders, which, with support from Germany’s E.ON, decided to initiate a new lawsuit against Gazprom over too high prices of gas.
