Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry says that the press release on human rights published by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday contains misleading information.
Concerns about the misleading information was expressed during the Thursday’s meeting between the director of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry’s United Nations, International Organizations and Human Rights Department, Oskaras Jusys, and the Russian Embassy’s minister adviser Dmitry Masyuk, the Foreign Ministry said.
“The press release is unobjective in respect to the topic discussed; it contains misinformation about the processes taking place in the European Union and our country. Furthermore, it questions the key facts of Lithuania’s history and fails to admit the crimes committed by totalitarian regimes,” said Jusys.
“Lithuania categorically states that such assessments and attempts made by Russia to provide misleading interpretations of history and other circumstances under the disguise of the human rights topic are unacceptable and have anything to do with general analysis and assessment of the global human rights situation,” the diplomat continued.
In his words, the information about Lithuania provided in the Russian press release is inaccurate, misleading or clearly false. Amid slanted facts, Lithuania is condemned for various restrictions of free speech and free press and is subjected to ungrounded accusations of violations of national minority rights in education and barring of persons of non-Lithuanian origin from running for president.
“The impression is that the human rights issues are politicised in the report, which provides a twisted view of the situation,” the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Thursday.
