Military exercises of the Baltic States 'Baltic Host 2013', which is part of a larger NATO Response Force exercise Steadfast Jazz 2013, was presented to Lithuanian media.
'Baltic Host 2013' involves approximately 150 military and civilian members of various institutions from the three Baltic States and other NATO countries.
Exercises will provide an opportunity of joint interoperability training for representatives of civilian and military institutions, while rendering Host Nation Support to the forces of assisting nations in case of a crisis.
Host Nation Support is a civilian and military support rendered by a host nation at peacetime, in case of war or crisis to Alliance's forces and organizations that deploy or conduct operations in the host nation's territory or transit it.
Readiness of the necessary infrastructure, provision, and reinforcement for allied forces will be evaluated.
Held annually since 2009, the 'Baltic Host 2013' exercises are conducted on a rotational basis by one of the Baltic States. This year the exercise headquarters is deployed in Latvia, the directing country of the exercise.
The Lithuanian part of the exercise takes place at the General Adolfas Ramanauskas Warfare Training Centre in Nemencine, under coordination of the Joint Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
JUOZAS OLEKAS, Lithuanian Minister of Defense:
We observe a significant progress over the 5 years that these exercises have begun.
