Lithuania to offer internship scholarships for international students

BNS 2026.03.02 11:21

Foreigners and Lithuanian diaspora students studying in Lithuania will be eligible to apply for state scholarships, the Education, Science and Sport Ministry said Monday.

The ministry said the support is aimed at encouraging talented international students to integrate into Lithuania’s labour market and improve their Lithuanian language skills.

“The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport is developing a model for the integration of foreign students in Lithuania to encourage the most talented students not only to complete their studies here, but also to integrate into the Lithuanian labour market,” Vice Minister Regina Valutytė said in a statement.

“We particularly hope to attract students in information technology, life sciences, technology and engineering. Our goal is that final-year students or graduates who complete internships would conclude employment contracts with the employers that host them.”

According to the ministry, scholarships will be awarded to 20 students. Eligible applicants will be final-year master’s or long-cycle study students who commit to completing a two-month internship at a Lithuanian company. The internship must be related to the student’s field of study. The scholarship will amount to 650 euros per month during the internship.

Higher education institutions will select candidates and submit applications, which will be assessed by the Education Exchanges Support Foundation. The foundation will make the final decision on scholarship recipients.

The ministry said the commitment to develop a model for attracting foreign students and integrating them into priority sectors of Lithuania’s labour market is included in the implementation plan of the government’s program.
