The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius will be paying an official visit to Budapest on 30 and 31 October, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has informed.
In Hungary, Linkevičius will meet with his Hungarian counterpart János Mártonyi and will attend events dedicated to regional co-operation and unveil a monument for the Grand Duke of Lithuania Jogaila and his spouse Jadwiga.
During his visit, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister will take part in the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Visegrad counties, Austria, Turkey and the Western Balkans that is organised at the initiative of the Hungarian Presidency of the Visegrad Group.
The meeting will discuss important issues related to the EU’s enlargement and its prospects. Moreover, the head of the Lithuanian diplomacy will welcome participants of the ministerial meeting of the Central European Initiative, a forum of regional cooperation with 18 member countries.
The Lithuanian and Hungarian Foreign Ministers intend to discuss bilateral and regional cooperation, Lithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council, preparations for the Eastern Partnership Summit, and other important EU and international policy issues.
In the Europe Grove at the foot of the Budapest Castle Hill, Linkevičius, Mártonyi and the head of the Polish diplomacy Radosław Sikorski will unveil a monument by Professor Dalia Matulaitė for the Grand Duke of Lithuania Jogaila and the Queen of Poland Jadwiga (the daughter of Louis I of Hungary).
