Lithuania handed a formal protest note to Russia on Thursday over the ongoing, large-scale shelling of Ukrainian territory by Russian forces.

The Foreign Ministry summoned the chargé d'affaires of the Russian Embassy in Vilnius to hand over a note of protest in response to this week’s intense bombardment of Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson and other regions of Ukraine.

The ministry said dozens of Ukrainian civilians had been killed and hundreds more injured during the attacks, which struck targets including an evacuation bus and a detention facility.

The protest note also stressed that Russia's military actions against civilians in Ukraine and its systematic brutal treatment of prisoners of war are "unacceptable and unlawful" and in flagrant violation of international law.
