Colonel Nerijus Stankevičius has been confirmed as the new commander of the Lithuanian Land Force, the Defence Ministry announced on Wednesday.
He will be promoted to brigadier general on Thursday and will succeed Artūras Radvilas, who has led the Land Force since 2022.
Currently, Stankevičius serves at NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) as head of the fifth group in the Strategic Planning Division. He previously commanded the mechanised infantry brigade Žemaitija (Griffin), also succeeding Radvilas in that role.
"His skills, competence and experience are truly outstanding," Defence Minister Dovilė Sakalienė praised Stankevičius. "I had the opportunity to work with him for a while and benefit from his advice. I believe our Land Force will grow even stronger under his leadership."
"We also wish Brigadier General Radvilas every success, as he will soon take on a new international post," she added.
The minister did not disclose where the outgoing Land Force commander will be assigned.
