Vilnius is buying 73 new trolleybuses from Solaris Bus & Coach, one of Poland’s largest public transport vehicle manufacturers. The deal is valued at 56.2 million euros and the vehicles should reach the Lithuanian capital in late 2026.

The two companies signed a contract in Vilnius on Thursday, the municipal transport company Susisiekimo Paslaugos (Judu) said.

According to Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas, one of the conditions for the prospective supplier was that the trolleybuses should be delivered as soon as possible. All are expected to reach the city by the end of next year.

“All European cities are competing for new vehicles, buses and trolleybuses, electrifying their public transport systems,” the mayor told a press conference on Thursday.

“Under the plan, the first trolleybuses in Vilnius will be running in the third quarter of 2026 and the last ones will arrive in December,” said Ignas Degutis, CEO of Vilniaus Viešasis Transportas (Vilnius Public Transport).

This is the second phase of the upgrade of the Vilnius trolleybus fleet. There are now 91 new Skoda trolleybuses running in the city. They were delivered 2024 and 2025.

The acquisition is financed by loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Nordic Investment Bank.

Solaris Bus & Coach is owned by Spanish transport solutions and manufacturing group CAF Group (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles).
