The body of the Lithuanian volunteer killed in battlefield in Ukraine, Tomas Valentėlis, was brought back to Lithuania and will be interred in his native town of Biržai this week.

“The remains of fallen volunteer fighter Tomas V. have been safely brought back to Lithuania,” Jonas Ohman, head of Blue/Yellow NGO that provides support for Ukraine, posted on Facebook on Saturday.

As previously announced by the Defence Ministry, members of the public will be able to pay their respects on April 23, when the remains will lie in repose at St. Ignatius Church in Vilnius.

The funeral will take place in his hometown of Biržai. During the ceremony, soldiers from the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Force will honour him with a gun salute.

Valentėlis’ death was reported in mid-March, and his body was recovered from the battlefield in early April.

According to Blue/Yellow, Valentėlis was killed while carrying out a combat mission as part of Ukraine’s International Legion.
