Lubys’ foundation donates 375,000 litas to Lithuanian universities

Charity and support foundation named after the late entrepreneur Bronislovas Lubys donated LTL 375,000 (EUR 109,000) to Lithuanian universities. The foundation is managed by company concern ‘Achemos Grupė’ and its main shareholders, reports the Baltic Course and the news agency ELTA.

Vilnius University, Kaunas University and Klaipėda University received LTL 125,000 each (EUR 36,200).

The chairman of the board of the foundation, Lyda Lubienė, wife of the deceased Lubys, said that her goal is to continue her husband’s philanthropic traditions and to promote cooperation of science and business.

According to Juratė Zadeikienė, foundation’s member of the board, the three universities were selected as they are the most prominent Lithuanian Alma Mater. In addition, the prospect to expand cooperation between science and business was also important. Therefore, the donations were directed at the areas relevant to the concern’s companies; i.e. engineering and chemical technology, electronic and control engineering, mechanics and mechatronics, telecommunications, electronics, information technology, economics, and finance.

A part the financial support will be allocated for grants and student motivation, and a part is to finance scientific research or motivate scientists. For example, donations of chemical product manufacturing company ‘Achema’ had been used to set up a complex chemical laboratory in Kaunas University of Technology.

Bronislovas Lubys’ foundation was established in April by his wife Lyda Lubienė, daughter Juratė Zadeikienė and concern ‘Achemos Grupė’. The foundation aims to continue Lubys’ philanthropy and patronage activity, the entrepreneur was known for his support to art, cultural events, publishing and development of science.
