The International Organization for Migration’s office in Vilnius (IOM Lithuania) will provide one-off payments of 176 euros to newly arriving refugees from Ukraine, the organisation said on Wednesday.
“The number of new arrivals has of course dropped, but every week we receive dozens of Ukrainians fleeing the horrors of war and they certainly need financial assistance, above all. That is why we will provide vulnerable war refugees with one-off payments to cover basic expenses,” Eitvydas Bingelis, head of IOM Lithuania, said in a statement.
The assistance will be granted to Ukrainian or third-country nationals who have arrived in Lithuania from Ukraine for the first time and have crossed an external EU border within the past 40 days.
To qualify for the benefit, applicants must be registered with the Migration Department to receive a temporary residence permit in Lithuania and meet the vulnerability criteria.
The payment will be made to single parents or carers who come with one or more children under 18, families with three or more children under 18, families with a disabled child, pregnant women, people over 60, and people with disabilities.
Almost 91,000 Ukrainians have arrived in Lithuania since the start of the Russian invasion.
