CEO of the construction company ‘Hanner’ Arvydas Avulis told the radio station ‘Žinių radijas’ that the situation of people working in cafés in Lithuania is rather miserable and cannot be improved soon, writes www.delfi.lt.

According to Avulis, if well paid employees emerged they would become uncompetitive in the market.

“We find ourselves in a closed circle. How do we break out of it? If, for instance, you increase wages in your café you become uncompetitive as others will sell cheaper and that is where people will go. The solution is a slow one, people we cannot simply agree to increase wages by 30 per cent… Because someone will not increase their salaries and will gain a competitive advantage,” said Avulis.

The businessman also said that it is very hard currently to find good specialists in Lithuania.

“Another anomaly that I could mention, for example, I cannot find employees:  I would pay LTL 5,000 salary, but I cannot find such people… And it has been like that for some time now,” Avulis told ‘Žiniu radijas’.
