Five Lithuanians were injured on Monday morning after they came under fire in Pokrovsk in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, which was attacked with Iskander missiles.
One of the persons was seriously injured, but their injuries and those of the other Lithuanians are not life-threatening, Sigitas Maliauskas, one of the injured Lithuanians, told the 15min news website.
The injured Lithuanians were travelling in two cars and were taking aid to frontline troops in Ukraine.
“All five were hospitalised; two who travelled in the first car needed surgery. One of them suffered a splinter wound to his hand and the other had to have his right leg amputated. The other three were admitted to the hospital with suspected contusions,” Eduardas Butrimas, the LRT correspondent in Ukraine, wrote on Facebook.
According to 15min, the relatives of those injured, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, and the Embassy in Ukraine were informed about the incident.
“We are aware of the situation. All the Lithuanian institutions involved are currently concentrating their efforts on bringing the wounded to Lithuania as soon as possible and providing them with the necessary assistance,” Defence Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas said.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Kasčiūnas said the injured Lithuanians are in a stable condition and are now in hospital in Dnipro.
