Lithuania’s Šiaulių Bankas is completely suspending card payments in Belarus as of October 11, the bank said. From September until now, payments were restricted in some retail outlets.
This decision will not have a significant impact on the bank’s customers, according to Simona Urbanavičiūtė, director of the bank’s Fincrime Prevention Department.
Bank card payments in Russia have been suspended since March 2022. Payments between Lithuania and Russian and Belarusian entities were suspended in the autumn of 2022.
Other major banks, including Luminor, Swedbank and SEB, suspended the use of their cards in Belarus in September.
