Lithuanian EU Presidency started with updates on the parliamentary dimension website

The main means of communication of the parliamentary dimension – website www.EU2013.lrs.lt of the parliamentary dimension of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union – welcomes visitors on 1 July in an updated form providing more of diverse information, the Press Service of the Seimas has informed.

On the start of the Lithuanian Presidency, the website features the addresses by Vydas Gedvilas, Speaker of the Seimas; Gediminas Kirkilas, Deputy Speaker of the Seimas and Chair of the Committee on European Affairs; and Petras Auštrevičius, Deputy Speaker of the Seimas responsible for organising the events of the parliamentary dimension of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council.

The public will be provided with information on the first parliamentary events of the Lithuanian Presidency, including the solemn Seimas sitting of 4 July dedicated to the start of the Presidency and to be attended by current and former heads of state, Speakers of the Parliaments of the Presidency Trio as well as Estonia, Latvia, Poland and Croatia, representatives of European Union institutions and other honoured guests.

The website also posts a new item – electronic version of the parliamentary glossary in the Lithuanian, English, French and German languages. The glossary includes concepts from the Founding Treaties of the European Union, Rules of Procedure of the European Parliament, protocols to the Treaty of Lisbon, Statute of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and other legal acts.

Website visitors will be able to watch live broadcasts of the parliamentary dimension events and find their video records, video reports as well as archive of photos with appropriate resolution for press. Journalists are also provided with tools for applying for accreditation to the events of the parliamentary dimension of the Presidency.

Yet another novelty is a virtual tour of the Seimas enabling to explore the most important halls and find out about the work going on there.
