The Lithuanian Energy Ministry plans to step up the protection of the country's electricity infrastructure, as well as the Orlen oil refinery in Mažeikiai, northern Lithuania, and its Būtingė and Mockava terminals.
Under the order drafted by Energy Minister Dainius Kreivys, the oil refinery would be placed at the highest, level 4, protection, while the two terminals would be placed at level 3.
The plans would involve building structures to protect them against explosions, as well as placing drone detection and neutralisation equipment.
The same level of protection would also apply to Lithuania’s high-value electricity infrastructure, including network connections with other countries.
The order will come into effect on January 1, 2024.
