President Gitanas Nausėda has appointed Audrius Brūzga as Lithuania’s ambassador to Israel.

Brūzga, currently head of the Foreign Ministry’s Directorate for Global Affairs, is expected to take up his new duties on September 1, replacing Lina Antanavičienė, the outgoing ambassador.

Brūzga has in the past represented Lithuania in Finland, the US, and Turkey. He served as a foreign policy adviser to Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius from 2013 to 2015.

Nausėda has also recalled Gintautas Vasiulis, Lithuania’s ambassador to Kazakhstan, as of August 16, as well as Jūratė Raguckienė, the ambassador to Croatia and Giedrius Čekuolis, the ambassador to Sweden, as of August 31 due to the expiry of their terms.

In Lithuania, ambassadors are appointed and dismissed by the president on the government’s proposal and with the approval of the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.
