Lithuanian scientific institutions and businesses from now on can apply for their defence products under development to be tested with the Lithuanian Armed Forces, the Defence Ministry said on Friday.
“Good news for the Lithuanian defence industry! Companies developing new defence technologies will be able to apply for examination and testing within the Lithuanian Armed Forces,” the ministry wrote on Twitter.
The ministry said in a press release that the aim is to encourage the development of the Lithuanian defence industry.
Military experts will test products under development and will provide their conclusions, which will help develop products that meet national defence needs and are suitable for exports.
“So far, the Armed Forces have only tested products they planned to purchase. The new rules will allow companies to apply for testing of products under development to get insights from the military, and improve the product under development,” Defence Minister Arvydas Anušauskas was quoted as saying in the press release.
Companies have to file applications with the Defence Materiel Agency for their products to be tested. Only entities that are registered and operate in Lithuania and meet the national security criteria are eligible to apply.
If a company’s application is granted, its representatives will be able to participate in the testing process.
